This single farm lot from smallholders of MB Coffee PLC is shade-grown in naturally nutrient-rich soil. Leaves from the shade trees fall to the ground and all the coffee waste on the farm is returned to the soil as a rich natural compost. The people of Anferara (Guji) grow coffee gardens at very high altitudes in the rich red soil of the highlands, setting this coffee’s profile apart from neighbouring regions. The 72-hectare farm is managed by Berehane Asamenew and focuses on producing high cup-score coffees including experimental process lots. These smallholders deliver their coffee to washing stations to be sorted and processed together, developing flavours of blueberry, maple syrup and hibiscus florals.
